Lorca

An hour and 15 minutes drive away is the beautiful city of Lorca. It is the 3rd city of the province of Murcia after Murcia and Cartagena. Lorca is close to the border with the province of Andalusia. The city was declared a historic artistic complex in 1984 and is known as a baroque city because of its numerous baroque monuments in the historic center. In 2011, the city was badly hit by two earthquakes that killed 8 people and damaged (severely) many buildings in the city
The city has been home to Romans, West Goths and Moors. In 1244 the city was conquered from the Moors by Alfonso the Wise

Next to the city center, Lorca's castle is an absolute must-see for young and old alike! This gigantic castle of the sun (La Fortaleza del Sol) is located in a strategic position and gives a wonderful view of the city and the meadow surroundings.... Within its walls is a gigantic area about 640 meters long by 120 wide. The castle was built between the 9th and 15th centuries and includes 2 towers that are definitely worth visiting.

In addition, a former Jewish quarter was found during excavations and you can access the renovated synagogue. The address is ACastillode Lorca, 30800 Lorca, Murcia, Spain
