Cartagena

Cartagena was founded in 221 BC on the Mediterranean Sea. This port city with a very extensive history is definitely worth a visit. By car you can reach Cartagena in less than half an hour. Alternatively, you can visit by bus. The information can be found here.

The main witness to this glorious history is the Teatro Romano. This was one of the largest amphitheaters during the Roman Empire and could seat as many as 11,000 spectators. For info and reservations, visit here.

A 2nd absolute must-see is the Castillo de la Concepción. Also called the 'Castillo de los Patos', this castle is largely built with remains from the Roman period. The castle has served both as a gunpowder depot and as a prison. Currently there is an information center located in it and it gives a beautiful view over Cartagena. More info can be found here.
